From October 7-13, fire safety advocates across the country will be spreading the word that when it comes to escape plans, practice is key. Whether you're a firefighter, a teacher or a parent, we've got lots of helpful information to help you help neighbors, friends and family members escape safely in the event of a home fire. So let's get started!

Sound the alarm: it's time for the Great American Fire Drill! Monday, October 8th during Fire Prevention Week 2007, The Runnemede Fire Department and the NFPA are asking kids and families in Runnemede, and the nation to practice their home fire escape plans. Just how big will the Great American Fire Drill be? With your help, we're hoping to have the world's biggest fire drill. So let's get started!

Students will need to create a home fire escape plan. It is great if an entire school can participate and strive to have 100% classroom participation. After all plans are completed; teachers need to make an additional copy of each plan. Both plans should be sent home. The original plan should be displayed on the refrigerator and the copy will be given to the fire department at our Fire Prevention Open House on Thursday, October 8th at the Fire Station on East 2nd Avenue as part of The Great American Fire Drill.

A class in each grade from Kindergarten to 5th Grade with the most students that attend our Open House on Thursday, October 11, 2007 and submit of their plan to the fire department will receive a Pizza Party from the Runnemede Fire Department.
