Fuel Spill

Monday, August 9, 2010 11:35  SD75 was dispatched to the rear of the 175 building on E 9th ave for a highway hazard. Upon arrival SD 75 had a flatbed truck with about 20 to 30 gals of diesel fuel on the ground around it. The driver of the truck had noticed some fuel coming out of one of the saddle tanks. When the driver had opened the tank, it had built up of pressure and had sprayed all over the driver and the ground. EMS had checked out the driver and transported to the hospital. The workers on site had did a good job of diking off the storm inlet prior to the fire department arriving. Had requested the Department of health out for unknown amount of fuel that had gone into the storm inlet. Used absorbent pads and a boom dike to soak up a most of the fuel also used 75 gals of water to flush out what product that had flowed into the storm inlet.
